The UK team behind those famous brands is a small one: fewer than 60 people, supported by a compact HR function with big ambitions for reward.

Perfetti Van Melle’s UK team had invested in an extensive benefits package. The problem was never the offering itself, but it wasn’t reaching people.

Annual leave was managed in a very basic way. The benefits suite was extensive but confusing and disjointed, spread across different providers and processes.

Employees couldn’t easily see the full value of what was on offer, so total reward was harder to understand than it should have been.

For Emma Locke, HR Manager UK, three things mattered:

  • Transparency and fairness: better management and visibility of annual leave and the benefits suite, and a clearer picture of total reward

  • Wellbeing: taking the stress out of complexity while offering fit-for-purpose support for mental health and wellbeing

Four years on from launch, FlexGenius is the single place Perfetti Van Melle’s UK team go for their benefits. As Emma puts it, the platform has delivered everything she set out to achieve, “and more, in that people use it”.

It brought a wide-ranging offering together in one place:

  • Health and wellbeing: private medical insurance, a health cash plan, dental cover, health screening, an external EAP, menopause support, bereavement and probate support, WeCare and Second Opinion services, YorkTest health testing, and serious condition support

  • Financial protection: life assurance, group income protection, travel insurance, gadget insurance, RAC breakdown cover and pensions

  • Lifestyle and savings: cycle to work, Techscheme, gym membership discounts, a benefits hub with retail discounts, and payroll giving

  • Total reward statements: a clear picture of the full value of working at Perfetti Van Melle, and one of Emma’s favourite features. “A great selling point” when attracting new talent

  • A better way to manage annual leave: the platform replaced a very basic annual leave process, and annual leave purchase now gives employees real flexibility over their time off 

Results: a benefits offering people use

 

Awareness and engagement are up, and the team can see employees reaching the right benefits at the moments they need them. The most popular choices tell their own story: travel insurance, cycle to work, private medical insurance and the health cash plan.
